Castilleja Earth Week Events Summary
The Earth Week team at Castilleja has worked hard to provide a range of learning opportunities for our campus community. All of our events are posted over at Earth Week Website Calendar and we're also including short descriptions of each below. We hope to see you at these events throughout the week!
Monday, April 19th, 201011:30 am - Brown bag lunch with environmental engineer, Luke Morton. Come learn more about the "Green" home that is being built right down the street from Castilleja School. This will take place in the library. You are welcome to bring food, but space is limited to 20 people. 12:25 pm - A repeat of the brown bag lunch with Luke Morton. Again, the location is in the library and space is limited to 20 people. 2:45 pm - Screening of the popular documentary film, "Who Killed the Electric Car?" Come learn about what happened to the electric vehicle program that took place right here in California in the late 90s and early 2000s. This is also designed to be a preview to the "Eco-Friendly" Car Show on the Circle which is taking place on Tuesday. Location of the screening is the large presentation room.Tuesday, April 20th, 2010
11:30 am - Eco-Friendly Car Exhibit on the Circle. The latest green friendly transportation technologies will be on display around the circle this day! We'll have an all-electric Tesla Roadster, a vegetable oil powered car, a hydrogen powered vehicle, a plug-in hybrid electric Prius, and more! Location? On the circle, of course! 2:45 pm - Seed planting project in advisory. 3:50 pm - Tour of the Bryant Avenue "Green" home. Meet Luke Morton and the entire team of designers and architects who have been working on this project just down the street from Castilleja! Learn about the various features of the home including passive solar, active solar, eco-friendly building materials, how reclaimed materials were utilized, rainwater catchment, lighting, and more! Meet on the patio at 3:50 to walk to the home as a group. All members of the Castilleja community are welcome to attend.Wednesday, April 21st, 2010
5:00 pm - Earthcast 2010 Opening Keynote. Come listen to the first hour of this 24 hour webcastathon with featured keynote presenter and professor of environmenal law, Jason Czarnezki. Jason's keynote is titled, "Climate Policy and US-China Relations." Jason is currently living and teaching in China as a Fulbright Scholarship recipient. 6:00 pm - Earthcast 2010 Hour #2, facilitated by the Castilleja Earthcast Team. Come listen to our students talk to experts in a wide range of areas, including corporate sustainability and clean tech venture capital investment.
7:00 pm - Earthcast 2010 Hour #3, facilitated by the Castilleja Earthcast Team once again!Thursday, April 22nd, 2010 - Earth Day!!
All Day Events:
Alternative Transportation Challenge - Walk, ride your bike, carpool or take public transit to school on this day. Take part in the grade level challenge to see what class has the most bikes by the graduation year flag on the circle!
Earth Day Dress Code - No need to wear your uniform IF you wear blue, brown, and green earthy tones to school on Earth Day. Organic and sweet free clothing also works!
Low Waste Day - challenge yourself to dim the lights, power down, and use as little paper as possible in honor of the 40th anniversary of the 1st Earth Day! 11:30 am - Earth Day Fair on the Circle - come see exhibits by SunRun Solar, Al Yuen's solar fountain demonstration, and parent Nancy Brown's Sustainable Fabrics display in Progress.
